A seedling pot – produced from local waste materials. Eggshells, which consist of 90% calcium carbonate (CaCO3), a ‘carbonated lime’, are ground into a fine powder and mixed with algin, a biopolymer obtained from the cell walls of brown algae (Phaeophyceae), as a binder. The algin acts as a starter fertiliser for the seedlings and has a positive effect on various plants such as rapeseed, various types of cabbage, spinach, leeks and strawberries.
